Facebook to Shut Parse, Tool for Mobile Apps

Facebook bought Parse for $85 million in cash and stock in April 2013, when the social network was ramping up its mobile business, people familiar with the matter said at the time. Dropbox Inc. also bid on Parse, and Alphabet Inc.GOOGL +4.28%’s Google and Yahoo Inc. also expressed interest in the startup, The Wall Street Journal then reported.

At the time, Facebook said the acquisition would help developers “rapidly build apps that span mobile platforms and devices.”

Parse announced new tools at Facebook’s F8 developer conference in March 2015. But over the course of the year, the company decided to focus on projects that stemmed from its core platform, such as expanding Facebook login and mobile app-install ads. Wednesday, Facebook announced strong fourth-quarter results on the strength of it mobile-advertising business.

Microsoft Corporation Retiring Modern Skype App

Microsoft Corporation announced in a blog post on Thursday, June 12, that it will be removing the touch-friendly modern Skype app, opting to support the desktop app instead. Windows 8 users will also have to switch to the desktop version of Skype as this change goes into effect July 7. All other versions of the Skype app will no longer exist once the modern app is officially removed.

HBO Now is cutting the cord, but there are still a few strings

HBO CEO Richard Plepler’s proclamation that, “All you need to get HBO Now is a broadband connection and an Apple device,” is exactly true — you will need both of those things to sign up. As it stands today, even though viewing is supported on PC or Mac via a web browser pointed at HBONOW.com, the only way to actually set up an account will be through Apple’s HBO Now app. HBO tells Engadget that Apple has a three-month exclusive as a digital provider of HBO Now, so it will be at least that long until someone like Google, Amazon or even HBO itself could sell access.

Google rolls out Android 5.1 Lollipop, new features added

Google’s blog reads as, “Today we are rolling out Android 5.1 – an update to Lollipop that improves stability and performance and offers a few new features like support for multiple SIM cards, Device Protection and high-definition (HD) voice on compatible phones.”

Google’s new update has laid a lot of emphasis on stability and enhancement stability along with newly enthused security features such as theft protection which is in response to the Cupertino’s Active Lock and it works on the same same anti-theft guidelines meaning that no one can garner access to your phone until and unless you sign in your google account.

The update gets Dual SIM card support and crystal clear voice calling with HD support on compatible devices which was earlier available on Orange and EE.
